2023 in Review

This year I completed 18 quilts and 10 donation quilts. I machine quilted 3 customer quilts, created countless small sewing projects, and threw some mending in there as well. I also was a part of a block exchange & have my quilt on the frame ready to quilt ( more about this when it’s finished).

It was a good year. Now I am planning on projects for 2024.  This year will entail using scraps as they are piling up!! I have precut fabric in storage containers & more waiting to cut.

May your new year be blessed with peace, piecing, love, & joy.

The Gray Project

A neighbor requested that a quilt be made from her hubby's 2 Boy Scout neckerchiefs.  I did not want to compromise the items so I designed a quilt utilizing the intact neckerchiefs and added fabric where necessary on the small of the two pieces.  I designed a geometric border in colors to match the neckerchiefs and backed it with flannel.  I machine quilted a stipple pattern in black thread.  The quilt is a generous lap size of 65" x 72". Printed a simple label with my name & date.

Keeping Busy

Sorry for not posting anything for a while.  I have been busy sewing up a storm making quilts for Sleep In Heavenly Peace.  I chose a simple layout so as to be able to make as many quilts as possible due to the need in our area.  It has been amazing to know that fabric that leans more to the "boy" side has been in short supply through donations etc.  Luckily I had some in my stash.

Hope you are all having a wonderful December, the month where we celebrate the birth of our dear Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Blessings to you and yours at this time and throughout the year.

Amy B (scrappyendings)

Here are some photos of the twin size donation quilts that I have made since October 18th to present.  I have been cutting out and planning even more quilts both for donation and for sale.  Idle hands - No Way!

HP for HB

Miss H is reading Harry Potter in her class and I found a 5 pack of fat quarter Harry Potter fabric at WalMart.  I bought the 4 fat quarter packs that were at the store and used my go to pattern Turning Twenty from Tricia Cribbs to make the quilt.  The quilt finished at 71" x 86".  It is backed with a cuddle flannel.  Its not an heirloom quilt but it is meant to be used and loved.  Perhaps while reading the book.

Finished at 71" x 86"

HP (what Miss H calls Harry Potter)
The backing is a much darker red than the photo shows.

Under Sedona Stars

I saw the Desert Oasis fabric line & knew I had to purchased some and make something with it.  The fabrics reminded me so much of our trip to Sedona Arizona several years ago.  Desert Oasis is by Laura Muir of Create Joy Project for Moda & I had purchased the layer cake from Sunflower Quilt Co. & some yardage from Jordan Fabrics.  The background fabric is Universe by Adrian Chesterman & Northcott Studio (KDP24860-54) https://northcott.com/product-detail.aspx?fbid=18&colid=2850&colorid=3844.  I had some fabric in my stash that I had purchased from The Stitching Room in Utah that worked for the backing. I cut the stripe fabric (Desert Oasis Spruce) on the bias for the binding and love the way it looks on the quilt!

The pattern was Brightly by Cluck Cluck Sew which I had just used for the last quilt & wanted to use the pattern again in a different fabric line.  I am very happy with the way this one turned out.  I added 3 borders to the pattern, you know I love borders!  The quilt ended up being approximately 80" x 93". I named it "Under Sedona Stars".

I hope you are all enjoying this mild autumn weather (at least here in central Utah) and are thinking about all those wonderful gifts you want to make for those special people in your lives for Christmas.

Until we meet again, Find Joy in Your Journey.

I am Like a Star Shining Brightly

I bought this pattern (Brightly by Cluck Cluck Sew) a few months ago and finally got around to making the quilt.  The bright fabric used on the top was gifted to me by a neighbor.  They are batik fabrics from Riley Blake Designs.  I used a white on white background and added 2 borders.  The pattern did not include borders, however, I love borders on my quilts.  The backing fabric was purchased on sale a while ago from The Stitching Room in Utah.

I machine quilted this one with an edge to edge meandering stipple using a Custard colored thread.  This one is machine bound as I was giving my poor hands a rest after harvesting the last of the potatoes & beets in the back garden area this morning.  Yes indeed it's potatoes for dinner!

I named this quilt "I am Like a Star Shining Brightly"   As I was sewing the blocks in these bright colors a Primary song kept repeating in my brain I am Like a Star Shining Brightly..

The quilt ended up 71" x 83" with the two added borders.

High Adventure

This is the second panel from Larry Zach for QT Fabrics that I have completed.  I had 8 stars left from the prior panel quilt which worked out well for this quilt.  I used assorted fabrics from various designers from Riley Blake Designs, Penny Rose Studios, etc.  The backing is from High Adventures 2 by design by dani for Riley Blake Designs.  I machine quilted it with an edge to edge design from Urban Elementz called Lacey Leaves.  I did not want to use a dense quilting pattern so this one worked out well.  This is the second quilt I have quilted on my King Quilter longarm machine.  Giving myself some grace during the learning period.  Though I have machine quilted for over 12 years on my smaller machine the larger machine has a slightly different feel about it.  I am enjoying the learning period though. The quilt turned out to be approximately 87 1/2" x 90".  I machine bound the binding.

Approximately 87 1/2" x 90"

Called this one High Adventure after one of the fabric lines.

Buck Meadow

I found this lovely panel at a local quilt store in Salina Utah called Creative Notions so I bought two of them.  I found some great fabrics at another local quilt store in Monroe called  Quilting4Love.  I really loved the green ombre fabric that I used in the stars.  It picked up all of the greenery in the panel.  I designed the borders to surround the panel.  The quilt ended up being 76 1/2" x 100".  I machine quilted it on my new to me King Quilter longarm using a pantograph called Lisa's Raindrops from Urban Elementz.  The quilt is backed with a soft flannel and hand bound.  I have started on the second panel but will set it aside for now as I have an order for 12 memory envelope pillows.

Hope you are all enjoying this lovely Labor Day.  It is cloudy here in central Utah and the rain has made everything so green.

Farmers Market

Well, the hubster asked if I would make one of his DNA second cousins a quilt.  He gave me some ideas & even picked out the main fabric for this one.  The pattern is called Stepping Stones from Pretty Darn Quick 3 Yard Quilts from Fabric Cafe.  The quilt is approximately 70" x 85" and has a pieced backing.  I used an edge to edge pantograph called Curlz from Linda's Electric Quilters using a thread called Sandstone #20950 from Connecting Threads.

Now it's the hubster's job to get it mailed off to the east coast.  Hope Jim likes it.

70" x 85"

Love the gingham with the farmers market fabric!
The grunge fabric (Shadow Play) is one of my favorite fabrics to use as
a background.

Yukon 2022

This quilt has been in the back of my mind since my niece & her hubby went on a big hunt in the Yukon last year.  Took me a while to find just the right panel & fabrics.  I adapted a pattern that I had used on a previous quilt to work with this Moose panel.

Fabrics: Shadow Play by Maywood Studio; Natures Finest pattern P9951 panel from Riley Blake Designs; outer border is fabric from Dallen Lambson for QT Fabrics; Spirit Animals by Collin Bogle for P&B Textiles; Shades (brown) by Riley Blake Designs; Green Shadow Play by Maywood Studio.

The quilt measures approximately 79" x 79".  I used a pantograph to do the edge to edge machine quilting.  The pantograph is called Curlz from Linda's Electric Quilters and is one of my favorites to use on some quilts.  The thread color I used is Bark #21102.

The panel & most of the fabric came from Christensen's Dept Store in Richfield and the backing fabric was purchased at The Stitching Room which is also in Richfield UT.

I hope our Amanda likes the quilt.  Since she loves to hunt I think she will.  Much love and prayers went into the making of this quilt.

Approximately 79" x 79"

Pantograph edge to edge pattern called Curlz

Custom label made on my computer.  Hope she doesn't
mind that I used some of her photos.

Love you Amanda!

Majestic Plaid

Finished the 6th commissioned quilt for a customer.  The pattern is called Allure found in The Magic of 3 Yard Quilts by Fabric Cafe.  The plaid fabric is from All About Plaid for Riley Blake; the dark green is County Meadow by Pam Buda for Marcus Fabrics; and the light color is Majestic Outdoors by  Greg & Co. for Penny Rose Fabrics.  I used the County Meadow fabric on the backing & binding as well.  I did use some creative license in piecing the backing.  All fabric in this quilt was purchased at The Stitching Room in Richfield UT.

The quilt finished at approximately 81" x 90".  I used an edge to edge pantograph called Combo by Linda's Electric Quilters using a cotton thread in the color "Herb".  I really think this quilt turned out great for either her grandson or nephew.

I hope you all find great joy in your journey no matter your craft.

Finished 81" x 90"

I called this one Majestic Plaid after
some of the lines of fabric used.

Edge to Edge pantograph called "Combo"

Pieced backing to break up all that green.

Up The Creek

Commissioned quilt #5 of #6.  The fabric was fun to use.  The blue with the paddles on it was my favorite on this quilt.  The paddle fabric is called A Day At Then Lake by Laura Marshall for Wilmington Fabrics; the blue is Whisper Weave by Nancy Halverson for Benartex; and the grey textured fabric is Essentials by Danui Nai for Wilmington.  The backing is 108" wide Wilmington Essentials Watercolor Texture in dark grey.  I did a free motion quilting motif I call "Wonky Tetrus" (yes, I spelled it that way on purpose) & used a thread color called Dove.  All in all I am very happy with this one and I hope the customer is as well.  The fabric for the quilt top was purchased at Christensens Department Store in Richfield UT.  They have  quite the assortment of "outdoorsy" fabric which I use in several of my quilts for the hunters/campers/outdoors people.

The pattern for this quilt is called "Wonderland" from the Make It Christmas with 3 yard quilt book from Fabric Cafe.  I always increase the yardage to make bigger quilts.  Their books include sizes from  lap to king.

Finished at approximately 88 1/2" x 88 1/2"

Don't you just love those paddles!

I named this one "Up The Creek".

Flowering Pathway

Completed this fun quilt last night.  The pattern is "Wandering Way" from Fabric Cafe from the "Quilts in A Jiffy 3 Yard Quilts book.  The fabric is Hunny Bunny by Meags & Me for Clothworks Fabric.  I purchased the fabric from The Stitching Room and I am very happy that I did as that line is almost gone now!  I love the dusty rose & greys in this line.

The pattern was so much fun to make.  I made wonky bias binding for this quilt from the dark pink stripe fabric in the line.  By cutting the binding a certain way the lines change direction every once in a while.  I really had fun with this one.

I used the soft 80/20 batting from Winline.  It is so soft and comfy.  I machine quilted an edge to edge pantograph called "Flower Power" from Urban Elementz with a lovely cotton thread in Blush color.  This quilt has hand binding on it.

Yes, this quilt will go up for sale.

I really like the pattern!

The grey with light pink polka dots
was the perfect backing for this quilt.
I named this one "Flowering Pathway".

A Charmed Life

The first of three quilts ordered is finished.  The pattern is "Falling Charm" by Missouri Star Quilt Co.  It is in their BLOCK Winter Vol 1 Issue 1 book on page 59.

For the charms (5" squares) I used Date Night by Basic Grey for  Moda Fabrics; the background was Confetti from the Remembering Red line by Studio 37 for Marcus Fabrics; the backing is 108" wide Patchwork Rings by Whistler Studios for Windham Fabrics; and the binding is Onyx Grunge by Basic Grey for  Moda Fabrics.

I machine quilted an edge to edge stipple pattern with a cream thread.  The binding is handstitched.  I named this one "A Charmed Life" as it is a charm pattern.

84" x 96"

The backing has been one of my favorites.
