New project in the works

Found a great pattern in the Winter Vol. 4 issue 1 of The Block magazine published by The Missouri Star Quilt Co.   It is a super eady hourglass pattern.  Can't wait for the final reveal.

Quilt Block Design

I volunteered to design and make a quilt block for the 2017 Quilters Heritage Festival.  The theme for this year is A Season to Quilt.

My husband's favorite color is orange so he suggest doing a Fall themed block.  Well, orange not being my favorite color I decided to compromise.  The design is a hint of fall.  The green spool of thread has been used throughout the year but the orange spool is full and ready to use for fall quilting.

The block is trimmed to 12 1/2 inches and will finished at 12 inches.  The fall flowers are my own design and represent the final blooms of autumn.

Miss K's Library

After seeing the book case quilt on the internet a year or so ago, I finally decided to try it.  I looked at several quilts and came up with this design.  It all started with one strip of leftover fabric from my last quilt.  The selvage had an interesting name for the fabric so I decided I would use other selvage pieces as book titles.  I had found the dark brown fabric which reminded me of our walnut book shelves.  Then I thought of someone who mentioned that they would like one of these quilts so I threw in a couple of things to personalize it a bit.  She doesn't know about this yet, but she will.....

I had to use the soft cuddle flannel fabric for the backing.  You all know how I love flannel backings.  Of course I had just the perfect bolt of flannel.  Chocolate brown with cream colored paw prints.

The quilt finished at about 69" x 72".  I call this one "Miss K's Library".

It was a fun project and I may have to make another one too!  I made a matching pillowcase 'cause you all know I do not like to wrap gifts!

Used a combination of ideas found on the internet.

Fun to use different techniques too.  See the kittens blue eyes?
Added a personal touch for the future quilt owner.

Love the backing.  Fun all over machine quilting.

Oh yes, a matching pillow case too.
