Wild Iris

When you see a fabric line advertised in a quilt magazine and you fall in love with the fabric but you talk yourself out of ordering it online what do you do?  You dream about that fabric and how you would use it.  Well, last October I went to the opening of The Sunflower Quilt shop in Axtell Utah and there the line was!!  What's a girl to do.....buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!  I knew I was going to use it for the Four Patch Lattice quilt which is a pattern from Missouri Star Quilt Co.  I have made this pattern twice before and really enjoyed the outcome.  I had purchased some minky fabric from The Stitching Room in Richfield Utah knowing that it would be the backing I would use on the quilt.  The minky was 90" wide but when I laid it out found that it was only about 84".  I cut down my outer border on the quilt to make it fit the backing.

I machine quilted this one with a pantograph called "Paisley Flower Leafs" from Quilting Pantographs.  I have been able to download some patterns from their website and through the miracle of photocopiers at my local office supply store Sevier Office Supply we have been able to size the pantograph patterns to a size that works well with my Brother 1500 which sits on a Start Right frame from Grace Frame Co.  I make enough copies to tape together into a roll that fits on the back board of the set up.  Works for me and was well within my price range at the time.  I used a cotton thread from Connecting Threads in the color Iris #20960.

I named the quilt "Wild Iris" after the fabric line.  I do have just a bit of the fabric yardage left over.  I used a Layer Cake (10" squares) for the charms.  As you know from one layer cake you can get an equivalent of 4 charm packs (5" squares).  That is what I prefer to do as it is sometimes more economical.

I have iris plants in my yard and they remind me of my Mom.  She had a huge iris flower garden in the front of our home in Simcoe Ontario Canada.  She loved flowers.

Enjoy your springtime and stop and smell the flowers once in a while.

Finished size approximately 75" x 83"

"Wild Iris"
I do like how the quilting pattern pops
on the minky backing.
