Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a little redheaded girl who loved "helping" her Nannie & Daa on their farm. There were several times she was allowed to go to the farmers market in Hagersville ON and again "help" with the produce. Yes, that little girl was me. I still remember helping fill the green bean baskets and smelling the wonderful aromas of fresh produce and homemade breads. I cherish those memories.
When I saw the fat quarter bundle, which also included the farm panel, I knew I had to make something with it. The fabric is called Happy Day Farm by Dan DiPaolo for Clothworks. This bundle contains a wonderful fabric line and sewed together beautifully. My co-worker suggested the Turning Twenty pattern (by Tricia Gibbs) which has a finished 16" block which is what I wanted for this quilt. Luckily I had the book and used 14 of the 16 included fat quarters to make the required number of blocks. (Just set the other 2 fat quarters to the side as you will use them in the quilt in the outer border & corner stones). I added borders to the panel to make the quilt a nice 71" x 83" finished quilt. I backed the quilt with a piece from Miniature Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings for Moda. The backing was a piece from my stash and worked so well with the fat quarter bundle.
The quilt came together quickly. I machine quilted it with an edge to edge pantograph called Inkblot from Urban Elementz using Glide thread in the colors Thyme on top & Black in the bobbin.
I called this quilt "To Market We Go".
