Grandma Pleasy Garrison Wigner - Quilt top number One

Hubby received some lovely gifts from a biological cousin.  Among the items in the box were two quilt tops that were made by hubby's biological Great Grandmother, Pleasy Garrison Wigner.  What treasures!!!  The letter included some tidbits about her quilting.  She was a scrapper just like me!  Alot of the fabric came from the local garment factory.  I did the same thing many years ago when I worked for a sewing plant.  The description also states that she would piece together the backings for the quilts (something I do as well).

Pleasy and I would have gotten on so well together.  We will treasure these quilts.  I have the second one to complete.  I need to make the backing for it and decide if I want to machine quilt (which is so much easier on my hands) or tie it with yarn.  Stay tuned.

Oh one more thing.  On the base of Pleasy's headstone is a little sewing machine!!  What is not to love about this woman.  We shall meet on the other side some day.

The quilt is approximately 80" x 95"

Applique heart added to cover a flaw in the fabric.
Overall machine quilted.

  1. I had actually made the label (which is not pictured) by copying a part of the cousin's letter regarding Grandma Pleasy & I also downloaded a photo of her headstone with the little sewing machine. I will take a photo of the label on the next quilt.
