Let It Begin With Me

Well, I was lucky enough to hit a great sale at our local quilt store, The Stitching Room, a couple of months ago.  I bought several panels (patriotic of course) and some fabric to go with the panels.  I made some star blocks with the tan fabric (which has words printed on itone of which is the word Peace).  I ran out of the tan fabric so used the deep red & blue for stars then appliqued little stars in the tan fabric onto those two colors.  I really like the way this turned out.  The quilt ended up being approximately 65" x 85".  I quilted it with a loop free motion design in a tan thread.

By the way, I am now so blessed to be a part of The Stitching Room team!  Come see us

at 25 N Main St, Richfield, UT or find us online at thestitchingroominutah.com

I am happy with the lay out

I named the quilt "Let It Begin With Me".
One of the songs our choral group sang
back in Canada was "Let There Be Peace on Earth"
I have always loved the song & believe in
the words "Let It Begin With Me"

Block Exchange 2020

Well, I finally finished the quilt with the blocks from the Block Exchange that I did with Life's Little Threads Block Exchange.  I must say that one of the blocks was a real challenge for me.  It wasn't a complicated block, but I had to lay it out so that my mind could figure out how to piece it together.  It was the Granny Square block.  But I am glad I participated with these wonderful ladies.  There were even some young quilters in the mix.  I am so happy with the blocks that they made for my challenge block.  I chose the Five Sided Wonky Log Cabin block for my block.  I love scrappy (as if you couldn't tell by my blog post name) and not having an exact pattern for a block can be a challenge.  The block itself is cut at 12 1/2 inches & finishes at 12 inches.  I added sashing and a 6 inch border.  I also used left over binding from my previous project.  I only had to make one extra block in order to complete this layout.   I love this quilt!  It finished at approximately 70" x 84".  The lime green borders & backing are from cuddle flannel.  Can't wait to see some of the other finished quilts from this group.

Great Grandma Pleasy Garrison Wigner - Quilt Top #2

I finally finished machine quilting the second quilt top that hubby received from his DNA relative.  I kept the stitching simple by using a stipple design.  I had a wonderful striped fabric piece that was gifted to me (thank you Francine Dunsing) that worked out so well for this quilt.  I made bias binding from the same backing fabric.  There were some piecing flaws & it wasn't squared but I didn't have the heart to make any changes.  Hubby will love this quilt no matter what because his blood relative made it.  The family has been so wonderful to hubby & I hope they know how much he appreciates being acknowledged as a part of his Paternal DNA family.
The quilt measures approximately 78" x 82"

I love the layout that Grandma Pleasy used

I included a part of the letter that accompanied
the quilt tops as well as a photo of Pleasy's
headstone on my label.  Notice if you can the little
sewing machine in the lower left of the
photo.  Pleasy & I may have been cut
from the same cloth.

Grandma Pleasy Garrison Wigner - Quilt top number One

Hubby received some lovely gifts from a biological cousin.  Among the items in the box were two quilt tops that were made by hubby's biological Great Grandmother, Pleasy Garrison Wigner.  What treasures!!!  The letter included some tidbits about her quilting.  She was a scrapper just like me!  Alot of the fabric came from the local garment factory.  I did the same thing many years ago when I worked for a sewing plant.  The description also states that she would piece together the backings for the quilts (something I do as well).

Pleasy and I would have gotten on so well together.  We will treasure these quilts.  I have the second one to complete.  I need to make the backing for it and decide if I want to machine quilt (which is so much easier on my hands) or tie it with yarn.  Stay tuned.

Oh one more thing.  On the base of Pleasy's headstone is a little sewing machine!!  What is not to love about this woman.  We shall meet on the other side some day.

The quilt is approximately 80" x 95"

Applique heart added to cover a flaw in the fabric.
Overall machine quilted.

Country Home

Things are a little out of whack with the COVID-19 virus happening.  It's good to do something that feels normal.  Finished this quilt 04/19/2020 and I really like it.  It feels like comfort and home.  I always stitch prayers into my projects.  Prayers that the user of the quilt (or project) will feel comfort and love when they use it.

The center squares and the light floral background fabric were gifted to me by a co-worker (thank you Francine Millet Dunsing).  The brown fabrics came from my fat quarter stash and the border from my yardage stash.

The quilt came out to be about 86" x 86".  I backed it in cozy flannel and quilted it with an overall stipple (though not a true stipple as I did cross over stitch lines every now and again).  I called the quilt "Country Home".

About 86" x 86"

Leaping Into 2020

When I found the frog die on sale at Accucut last year I knew I had to buy it since 2020 is a Leap Year.

I used alot of my green scraps (green is not one of the big colors in my stash) and cut the frogs from fat quarters that I had in my fat quarter stash.  I designed the quilt to fit what fabric I had to use for this particular quilt.  It came out at 60" x 68".  I even pieced the backing as I was a little short of the green flannel that I wanted to use.  The label was made from the one left over block that I had.

All in all, it is a fun quilt for Leap Year!

I used the left over frogs in two corners of the quilt.

I used the one left over block as the label.  Light green does not show up very well.
Name of the quilt is "Leaping Into 2020"

Pieced the backing as well.

Unbearably Cute

Finished the little twin boy quilt on Wednesday evening.  It is approximately 50" x 50".  Made with blue & yellow flannel.  The center block has the applique bear which was made with one of my newest die cuts for my Accucut cutter.  I really like the way it turned out.  Flannel backing as well.

The name of the quilt is "Unbearably Cute".  And the little one is cute (as least from his picture).  I will pop over to see them soon.

Got this done in the nick of time as the little neighbors have arrived!

Somebunny Loves Me

I designed and made this baby quilt for a neighbor who is going to have twins - a girl & a boy.  This is obviously the little girl quilt.  I appliqued the bunnies & embroidered "Somebunny Loves Me" in a circular design.

The backing is a mottled lavender flannel.

I have the center square of the little boy quilt ready and need to cut out the squares for the 9 patch blocks.

Mixed Berries

Well, I had to use the 9 patch blocks that I had left over from my last scrappy quilt.  This time I used pinks & purples for the log cabin piecing.  I really like this one.

Some of the purple & pink fabrics & the backing fabrics were given to me by a neighbor.  Thank Deonne Vance.

Of course I had to make a pillowcase as well.

The quilt is approximately 78" x 90".

Photos were taken early this morning so there are quite a few shadows.  I keep saying one day I will buy a better camera!
I love the pinks & purples

I machine quilted with an all over hook & curl pattern.

"Mixed Berries"

I used 4 different flannel pieces for the backing

and of course the pillowcase
