All My Flakey Friends

 Recently I purchased a curated Fat Quarter bundle of the Perfect Winter fabric line at The Quilt Shop at Christensen's in Richfield UT.  The fabric was designed by Lori Whitlock.  I then found the free pattern for the Winter Cheer Panel Quilt on the Riley Blake Designs website using the Winter Cheer Panel which was sold separately.  I really like the star blocks used in this pattern for the alternate blocks.

I used a piece of interfacing to draw out the pieces needed to make the star block.  This helped me make sure I had all of the units to create the block.  I think I will start doing this on blocks that have multiple small units.  I got the idea from a gal at the Heritage Quilt Festival last year.  Wish I could remember her name to give her full credit.

The quilt finished at 59 1/2" x 59 1/2".  I used some fabric from Timeless Treasures for the backing which worked out so well for this project.  I changed the fabric in the small border in order to utilize the strips that were cut away from the panel blocks.  I just needed a Fat Quarter of the same fabric from my bundle to make the size needed.

I quilted this one with an edge to edge pantograph called Coquina from Urban Elementz using Glide Thread in the color Mercury.  I cut the plaid/gingham fabric on the bias for the binding.  

I called this one "All My Flakey Friends".  

Barnyard Buddies

 Completed the Curio quilt pattern from Make It Modern With 3 Yard Quilts by Fabric Cafe.  The focus fabric is a piece from The Henhouse  fabric line by Gingiber for Moda Fabrics; the gingham is from Vintage by Sweetwater for Moda Fabrics both of which were purchased at The Sunflower Quilt Co in Axtell UT; the blue was a piece that I had purchased at Hobby Lobby in Lake Havasu AZ while on vacation a few years ago.

The quilt measures approximately 48" x 60".  I added an extra outer border of the blue fabric to enlarge the original 3 yard pattern.  The quilt is backed in red flannel.  I machine quilted it with an edge to edge pantograph from Christy Dillon of mycreativestitches.net, however, since my machine is not robotic I was able to eliminate the "pearls" in this pattern by simply bypassing them on the printed pantograph that I made to use with my longarm.  We do have the full quilting pattern for this design (with the "pearls") loaded on the longarm at The Quilt Shop at Christensen's in Richfield.  I used Glide thread in the color Mercury on the top and Cardinal Red in the bobbin.  I machine bound the bias gingham binding.

I called this quilt Barnyard Buddies.  I kept hearing the Merle Haggard song Bar Room Buddies (with Clint Eastwood) in my mind while looking at these buddies.  Now I am not a drinker but it's a toe tapping song for sure and for certain.

Next up on the cutting mat is a requested quilt.

In The Beginning Quilt Class -Table Runner

 This month I taught a beginning quilt class using the Shining Star Table Runner pattern from Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics.  The pattern is great for beginner quilters as you learn how to make half square triangles (HST), how to match and press seams, and choosing fabric.  For the sample I used some Sandy Gervais fabrics that I had hidden away and also had enough pieces of fabric to make a scrappy backing.  It was a fun class that I taught at The Quilt Shop at Christensen's.

 A local gal is a member of Quilts of Valor. She was looking for volunteers to machine quilt a quilt that she had made. Of course I said yes. It was an honor.

I used Glide Thread in the color black & the edge to edge pantograph is called Heiroglyphs from Urban Elementz.
