Last year I purchased a kit from Creative Notions in Salina UT. I don't usually purchase kits as the first kit that I had ever purchased had an incorrect cutting/finished size for one of the blocks. There were no updates on the pattern. I was fortunate enough to pull enough from my stash to closely match what I needed to correct the block. Fast forward to 2024 & I hit a great sale at a local quilt store in Salina UT and purchased this wall hanging kit. I loved the colors. I was even fortunate enough to have enough fabric leftover in the kit to add 2 outer borders and binding. Granted the binding had to be cut at 2" but it worked out just fine as I hand bound the quilt.
The quilt ended up being 41" x 58". I didn't want to piece the backing as I only had "x" amount in my stash to use so I was able to use the width of fabric and a few inches longer for the length. I machine quilted a pantograph called "Livewire" on my Brother 1500 which is on a Grace Start Right frame. Worked out very well. In order to give myself some room on the sides for machine quilting I sewed a 5" or so strip of 2 1/2" fabric into an extension to pin onto the quilt sides to allow my machine to have a wee bit more room when quilting. It works well for me. I even use this technique on my longarm when I don't have enough to give an additional 4" all around on the backing. Ingenuity can work in my favor sometimes.
I named the quilt after the pattern "Spirits of the Wind" by Pine Tree Country Quilts. I really like that the pattern not only has the wall hanging pattern but a throw size quilt pattern as well.
On to the next quilt!
